About this tool
Konvert's PDF compressor rebuilds your document with smaller, re-encoded page images so it can fit under an email cap, a portal limit, or a WhatsApp share. Because it treats every page as an image, the output looks the same visually but selectable text and crisp vector lines from the original may be flattened — a fair trade when the goal is a smaller file for sharing rather than editing. Everything happens in the browser: your PDF is never uploaded, and there is no queue or account.
FAQ
Usually not. Pages are re-encoded as images, which trades text selection for a much smaller file.
No. Remove the password first and re-apply it afterwards if needed.
Rendering many pages in a browser tab can exhaust memory. Split long PDFs into chunks and compress each.
The tool iterates toward your target and gets close, but exact bytes cannot be guaranteed.
No. PDF compression re-encodes pages in your browser without uploading.
More about this tool
How it works
- Add a PDF that is not password-protected.
- Choose balanced, maximum compression, best quality, a size target, or a percentage target.
- Review the reported size savings, then download the smaller PDF.
Features
- Five compression modes — Balanced, Maximum Compression, Best Quality, Target File Size, and Target Percentage.
- Local processing — Your PDF stays on your device — nothing is transmitted to a server.
- Visual quality preview — Check a sample page before committing to the settings for the whole document.
- Works with scanned PDFs — Especially effective on scan-heavy PDFs where images dominate.
- One-click download — Get the compressed PDF back in a single file.

Common uses
- Sending a proposal or contract by email
- Uploading tender or exam PDFs under strict portal caps
- Sharing PDFs on WhatsApp within its share limits
- Archiving scanned bills, receipts, and reports
- Attaching a resume or brochure to a job application
Limitations
- Selectable text and vector artwork are re-rendered as images, so text may no longer be selectable or search-indexable.
- Up to about 40 pages per file — split larger PDFs first.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported; remove the password before compressing.
- Roughly 25 MB per file, and target sizes are close to your goal rather than exact.
- Signed PDFs may lose their digital signature after re-encoding.
