About this tool
PNG is the go-to format for screenshots, UI mockups, logos, and any image that needs a transparent background — but PNG files are often two to five times larger than they need to be. This tool re-encodes your PNGs with smarter filtering and palette selection to strip out redundant data while keeping every pixel and every level of transparency intact. When it notices a picture would be much smaller in WebP with almost identical quality, it can suggest that path — useful for web work, though PNG stays the safer choice for archival, print, or design handoff. Processing runs in your browser on your device.

Yes. Alpha transparency is kept for every pixel by default.
PNG optimization itself is lossless. Palette quantization and optional WebP output are lossy but usually indistinguishable.
Photographic PNGs can only shrink so far. Converting them to JPG, WebP, or AVIF gives a much bigger saving.
Absolutely. The WebP suggestion is optional and never replaces your file unless you choose it.
Non-essential chunks such as software tags and thumbnails are removed.

Limitations
- PNG is not ideal for photographs; JPG, WebP, or AVIF will usually be smaller at similar quality.
- Around 25 MB per file — massive UI captures may need to be split.
- Palette-based savings can slightly shift colors on true-color images with many gradients.
- Target sizes are approximate; the encoder gets close but cannot hit exact bytes.
