About this tool

PNG is a safe common denominator when a WebP needs to move into design software, documentation, or any tool that hasn't fully embraced WebP yet. Because both formats support transparency, an alpha channel present in the WebP carries cleanly into the PNG. Encoding is lossless from this step forward, so no additional artifacts are introduced — the file simply becomes larger in exchange for broader compatibility. The conversion runs inside your browser, keeping the source WebP local. One file per run, up to about 25MB.

FAQ

More about this tool

How it works

  1. Select a WebP file to convert.
  2. The browser decodes the WebP and re-encodes the pixels as PNG.
  3. Download the PNG, transparency and all.

Features

  • Alpha channel carried over — Transparent pixels in the WebP remain transparent in the PNG.
  • Lossless from here — The PNG encode does not add new compression artifacts.
  • Larger output — PNG stores every pixel, so expect a noticeably bigger file than the WebP.
  • Local conversion — The image never leaves your device.
  • One image per run — Convert a single WebP at a time, capped near 25MB.

Supported formats

Input: WebP. Output: PNG (transparency preserved).

Common uses

  • Design imports — Move WebP downloads into editors that handle PNG more reliably.
  • Documents and slides — Embed transparent graphics in tools that don't yet display WebP.
  • Archiving — Keep a lossless PNG copy alongside a compressed WebP.

Limitations

  • PNG output is typically much larger than the WebP source.
  • Detail already lost inside a lossy WebP cannot be recovered.
  • One file per conversion, up to about 25MB.
  • Animated WebP files are not supported for animation output.
